Back to newsGreek traffic police carried out enforcement operations across Crete between June 15 and 21, recording 147 traffic violations on the island as part of the national "Zero Tolerance" road safety campaign. Across Greece, more than 2,320 violations were recorded during the same week. Checks targeted speeding, seatbelt use, mobile phone use while driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Tourists renting cars or scooters should be aware that enforcement is active throughout the island, including on rural and coastal roads. Speed limits, helmet requirements for motorcycles, and seatbelt laws are strictly enforced. Fines can be significant, and licenses may be confiscated on the spot. Visitors are advised to carry their driving licence at all times and familiarise themselves with Greek road rules before driving in Crete.
