Tourist Dies in Drowning Incident at Crete Beach; Safety Warnings Issued

Sunday, 12 July 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
A tourist died after being pulled from the sea at Stalida (also known as Stalis), a popular coastal resort on the northern coast of Crete between Hersonissos and Malia. The incident serves as a reminder of sea safety risks, particularly during summer when beach conditions can change quickly. Tourists visiting Crete's beaches are advised to swim only at designated areas supervised by lifeguards, pay attention to flag warnings (red flag means no swimming), avoid the water after heavy meals or alcohol, and never swim alone in unfamiliar areas. If you witness someone in distress in the water, call the Greek emergency number 112 immediately. Local authorities and the coast guard responded to the incident.
