Back to newsGreek authorities have raised the alarm over water shortages affecting several Aegean and Ionian islands, including Crete. In response, the government has announced 15 million euros in water infrastructure projects spanning Naxos, Leros, Rhodes, Amorgos, Skopelos, Alonnisos, Zakynthos, and Crete. The works aim to upgrade water supply networks and reduce distribution losses. For visitors to Crete this summer, water availability in some areas may be limited, particularly in rural or less-developed zones. Tourists are advised to use water responsibly, avoid leaving taps running, and check with their accommodation about any local restrictions. Hotel pools and facilities are not expected to be impacted by these measures, as the projects are focused on long-term network improvements rather than immediate supply cuts.
