Back to newsA tourist was pulled unconscious from the sea at Stalida beach, near Hersonissos in the Heraklion region of Crete. Emergency services responded to the incident, which serves as a reminder of the risks of swimming alone or in unsupervised conditions, particularly during peak summer heat. Stalida is a popular resort beach on the north coast, roughly 25 km east of Heraklion city. Visitors are advised to swim only at beaches with lifeguard supervision, avoid the water during the hottest hours of the day (noon to 3 pm), stay hydrated, and never swim alone. Flag warnings should always be checked before entering the sea. In an emergency, the European emergency number 112 is available throughout Greece.
