Coast Guard Rescues 32 From Adrift Boat Off Crete

Saturday, 13 June 2026/SourceHaniotika Nea/1 min read
Greek Coast Guard authorities rescued 32 people from a small boat found adrift approximately 32 nautical miles south of Gavdos, the small island located off the southern coast of Crete. The rescue operation was coordinated by the Hellenic Coast Guard after the vessel was located in open sea. Gavdos is the southernmost point of Europe and a popular destination for visitors seeking remote beaches and a quiet atmosphere, reachable by ferry from Paleochora or Sfakia. This type of rescue operation is not uncommon in the waters south of Crete during summer months. The incident has no direct impact on tourist travel to or around Gavdos, and ferry services to the island continue to operate normally.
