Badia Dam Feasibility Study Completed, Opens Path to EU Funding

A completed feasibility and engineering study for the Badia Dam project in Crete has been officially presented. The dam is proposed for funding under the European Union's Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan 2023-2027, overseen by the Greek Ministry of Agriculture. The project aims to improve water management and irrigation capacity in the region, supporting local agriculture and addressing seasonal water shortages that affect parts of Crete. While the dam is still in the planning and funding approval stage, it represents a significant long-term infrastructure investment for the island. Tourists are unlikely to experience any direct impact from this project in the near term, though improved agricultural water supply over coming years may benefit the local farming communities and rural landscapes visitors enjoy across the Cretan countryside.
