Greek Coast Guard Intercepts Boat With 36 Migrants Off Crete

Tuesday, 26 May 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
Greek Coast Guard authorities detected a small vessel carrying 36 migrants in the waters south of Kaloi Limenes, a coastal village on the southern shore of Crete in the Heraklion regional unit. The boat was intercepted and those on board were brought ashore for processing by the relevant authorities. This area of southern Crete, known for its calm waters and proximity to the ancient site of Fair Havens mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles, remains an active maritime route. Tourists visiting the south coast beaches and nearby Matala should be aware that coast guard operations may occasionally be visible in the area. There is no direct impact on tourism infrastructure, and beaches and roads in the region remain fully accessible to visitors.
