Crete MP meets residents over BOAK highway expropriation concerns

Saturday, 16 May 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
Manolis Chnaris, a Member of Parliament for Rethymno, met with representatives of the Residents and Property Owners Association of Eastern Rethymno to discuss concerns over the BOAK highway project. The meeting focused on the planned route alignment and property expropriations required to complete this major east-west motorway crossing Crete. Residents raised objections about how the project affects their land and properties in the eastern Rethymno area. The BOAK motorway, currently under construction in phases, will eventually connect Heraklion to Kissamos, significantly reducing travel times across the island. Tourists should be aware that construction activity in the Rethymno region may cause temporary road disruptions. Once complete, the motorway will make driving between Crete's main cities faster and more convenient for visitors renting a car.
