For visitors, Amari offers a quieter alternative to coastal resorts: walking trails connect villages, local tavernas serve traditional Cretan cooking, and the scenery changes dramatically with the seasons. The valley is accessible by car from Rethymno in about 40 minutes. It suits travelers interested in rural Crete, history, or hiking away from summer crowds.
