Back to newsTemperatures on Crete and across Greece climbed above 35°C on Monday, June 8, with the highest readings recorded in southern mainland regions. The heat was clearly visible on temperature maps, reflecting an early-season warm spell affecting much of the country. Visitors currently on the island should stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activity between noon and 4pm, and apply high-SPF sunscreen. Light, breathable clothing is strongly recommended. Beaches will feel particularly hot during peak afternoon hours, so plan water activities for the morning or evening. Those exploring inland sites such as Knossos or Spinalonga should carry at least one liter of water per person and wear a hat. Pharmacies across Crete stock oral rehydration salts and cooling sprays if needed.
