Back to newsA 10 MW wind farm project in Sitia, eastern Crete, has received an extension on its development license. The project, located in the Sitia area of Lasithi regional unit, is part of Greece's broader push to expand renewable energy capacity across the islands. The licensing extension allows developers additional time to advance the permitting and construction process. For visitors, the wind farm will have no direct impact on tourism in the Sitia area, which remains known for its unspoiled landscapes, the Sitia Geopark, and the nearby Vai palm forest. Construction, when it begins, may affect some rural roads in the vicinity. Sitia is accessible by road from Heraklion (approximately 2.5 hours east) and has a small regional airport with seasonal connections.
