Two Wildfires in Crete Brought Under Control

Monday, 6 July 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
Two wildfires in Crete have been brought under control. The fire near Ierapetra, a coastal town on the southeastern tip of the island, has been fully contained. A separate fire near Gazi, a village just west of Heraklion, no longer has an active front. Firefighting crews remain on site for monitoring. Tourists visiting the Ierapetra area or travelling through the Heraklion region should encounter no disruptions, though local roads near affected areas may see occasional emergency vehicle traffic. If you are staying nearby, follow instructions from local authorities and avoid approaching burned zones. The situation is currently stable.
