Back to newsA group of Australian tourists filed a formal complaint with Greek authorities after experiencing a threatening incident on the BOAK highway in Crete. While driving, the tourists reported that individuals in the bed of a 4x4 pickup truck pointed firearms at their vehicle. The tourists identified themselves by name in their complaint, and local authorities have been asked to investigate and provide answers.
The BOAK is the main east-west highway crossing northern Crete, used daily by tourists travelling between the airport, Heraklion, and eastern destinations such as Agios Nikolaos and Elounda.
Visitors travelling on the BOAK are advised to drive with doors locked and to report any threatening or suspicious behaviour immediately to the Greek police (dial 100) or the nearest police station. Avoid confrontation and keep moving if approached.
