Back to newsLegal proceedings have begun to determine compensation for landowners affected by expropriations along the first section of the Northern Road Axis of Crete (BOAK) near the villages of Aptera and Kalyves, in the Apokoronas region of Chania prefecture. The BOAK is a major east-west highway currently under construction that will eventually connect Chania to Heraklion, significantly reducing travel times across the island. This legal phase focuses on settling disputes with property owners whose land was acquired for the project. Construction activity in this corridor may cause localized road disruptions near Kalyves and Aptera. Travelers heading to popular sites such as the ancient ruins of Aptera or the beaches around Kalyves should allow extra time and follow local signage for detours.
