Crete Expands Primary Healthcare With 35 New Doctor Positions

Friday, 26 June 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
Crete is expanding its primary healthcare network with 35 new doctor positions being announced across Health Centers and Multi-Purpose Medical Clinics (Polydynama Iatreia) throughout the island. The recruitment drive aims to strengthen first-contact medical services in local communities, reducing pressure on hospital emergency departments. For tourists, this means improved access to non-emergency medical care at local health centers, which are generally the first point of contact for minor illnesses or injuries. Visitors who need routine medical attention can approach their nearest Health Center (Kentro Ygeias) rather than going directly to a hospital. Travel insurance is still strongly recommended, as health centers primarily serve registered residents and fees may apply for tourists without European Health Insurance Cards (EHIC).
