Back to newsGreek authorities issued a warning on Saturday, May 30, about a new phishing email campaign circulating across Greece, including Crete. Fraudsters are sending emails that falsely appear to carry the signature of the Hellenic Police Chief, making them look official and credible. Recipients are being deceived into believing they have received legitimate law enforcement communications.
Tourists visiting Crete should be aware that Greek police do not contact members of the public by unsolicited email. If you receive an email claiming to be from the Hellenic Police or signed by a senior police official, do not click any links, download attachments, or provide personal information. Report suspicious emails to local police or the Greek Cyber Crime Unit. When in doubt, visit the nearest police station in person to verify any official communication.
