Vlites beach is a well protected beach in the large bay of Souda , about 5 km east of Chania city , and is the longest beach of the bay. It is actually the long beach formed north of the mouth of the Moronis River and reaches north to the Souda Bay War Cemetery .

The sandy beach is suitable for children, as it is almost always calm and water is shallow. Due to the proximity to the Souda Naval Base and the commercial port of Souda , many locals used to avoid swimming here.

However, according to chemical measurements the water is clean and swimming in Vlites is absolutely safe. Souda Bay War Cemetery 0.2 km River Moronis 0.7 km Museum of Typography at Chania 2.2 km Venizelos Graves 2.8 km German shelter of St.
