Krapi Plateau

At the north side of the White Mountains , at the borders of provinces Apokoronas and Sfakia there is the small plateau of Krapi . Just above Krapi starts the natural passage called Katre Lagos that links north coast to Askyfou plateau and Sfakia province.

This passage was so important that it hosted several battles between the Ottomans and the Sfakian rebels. From Krapi starts a beautiful trail that crosses a beautiful oak wood and descends to the Lake Kournas .

The round plateau is quite small and hosts several crops. The archaeologists believe that Krapi housed the ancient town Katris , ruins of which no longer exist.

In the center of the small plateau there is a well in good condition and a little further we meet the church of Saint John that hosted the revolutionary committee during the Cretan Revolution of 1866 against the Turks.
