Ler a história

In the center of the village Stamni , province Pediada dominates the impressive three-aisled and cross-roofed church of the Savior Christ , which is dedicated to the Transfiguration of Christ , Saint Catherine and Saint Paraskevi . It is a unique sample in Crete, as it is characterized by a three-part separation that before the sanctuary is interrupted by a transverse and prominent elevated aisle, whose main faces of the north and south antenna are formed by blind arches with semicircular arches.

The aisles, like the three sanctuaries, communicate with each other through arched openings. The church dates back to the 13th century and preserves few examples of frescoes on the south wall of the south arch and on the front of the northwest pillar, which depicts Christ in full body.

The work carried out at the beginning of the 21st century restored its original form, which had been altered by extensive interventions in the 19th and 20th centuries.
