Elafonisi Beach Hits 38°C as Greece Faces Extreme Heat Wave

Saturday, 27 June 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
Elafonisi beach in the Chania region of western Crete recorded temperatures approaching 38 degrees Celsius on Saturday, June 27, making it one of the highest temperatures recorded across Greece that day, according to Meteo data. Elafonisi is one of Crete's most popular beach destinations, known for its pink-tinged sand and shallow turquoise lagoons. Visitors planning a trip there should take the heat seriously: bring plenty of water, apply sunscreen frequently, and avoid prolonged sun exposure between 11am and 4pm. Seek shaded areas or take breaks in the water. Temperatures at this level can cause heat exhaustion quickly, especially for those not acclimatized. Early morning or late afternoon visits are strongly recommended during this heat period.
