Back to newsThe Region of Crete has held the first meeting of a newly formed Working Group dedicated to supporting the Cretan olive oil sector. The group was established by Regional Governor Stavros Arnaoutakis and brings together all key stakeholders involved in olive cultivation and production across the island. Crete produces some of the finest extra virgin olive oil in the world, accounting for a significant share of Greek national output. This initiative aims to coordinate efforts across producers, cooperatives, and regional authorities to strengthen the industry. For visitors, Cretan olive oil remains one of the most sought-after local products to bring home. Farms, cooperatives, and specialty shops throughout the island offer tastings and direct sales, particularly in the Heraklion, Rethymno, and Chania regions.
