New EU Rules Strengthen Crete Flight Passenger Protections

Wednesday, 8 July 2026/SourceFlashnews/1 min read
The European Union has introduced updated regulations governing air travel, bringing notable improvements for passengers flying to and from Crete. The new rules strengthen existing passenger rights, including clearer entitlements to compensation for flight delays, cancellations, and denied boarding situations. Airlines operating routes into Heraklion (HER) and Chania (CHQ) airports are required to comply with these updated standards. Tourists should be aware that in the event of a significant delay or cancellation, they are entitled to meals, refreshments, and accommodation where applicable, as well as financial compensation depending on the circumstances. Passengers are advised to keep all booking documentation and receipts when traveling, as these are required when submitting claims. The changes aim to make the claims process more straightforward and to improve overall transparency between airlines and travelers across EU member states.
