Back to newsLoutro is a small, car-free village on the southern coast of the Chania regional unit in Crete. Accessible only by boat or on foot, it sits between the White Mountains and the Libyan Sea, making it one of the most secluded spots on the island. The village is known for its calm turquoise waters, whitewashed houses, and relaxed atmosphere. Visitors can reach Loutro by ferry from Sfakia (Chora Sfakion), which is roughly a 90-minute drive south from Chania city. Day-trippers and hikers also pass through via the E4 coastal trail. There are no cars, so the pace is quiet and unhurried. It suits travelers looking to escape busier resort areas. Basic accommodation and tavernas are available, but options are limited, so booking ahead is recommended, especially in July and August.
