Back to newsA new church dedicated to Saints Parthenios and Evmenios was inaugurated at Koudoumas Monastery on the southern coast of Crete, in the Heraklion regional unit. Koudoumas is one of the most isolated and historically significant Orthodox monasteries on the island, perched on a rugged coastal cliff with no direct road access from most directions. The newly consecrated church honors the two saints closely associated with the monastery's founding and spiritual heritage. For visitors, Koudoumas is accessible via a scenic dirt track from the village of Kapetaniana and offers a rare glimpse into traditional Cretan monastic life. The monastery welcomes respectful visitors during daylight hours. Modest dress is required, covering shoulders and knees. The surrounding landscape of rocky hills meeting the Libyan Sea makes the journey worthwhile beyond the religious significance.
