Back to newsThe Morosini Fountain, located in Lions Square (Plateia Lionaria) in the heart of Heraklion's old town, will remain accessible to visitors this summer after city officials decided against installing scaffolding for restoration work during peak tourist season. The 17th-century Venetian fountain, one of the most recognizable landmarks in Crete, had been at risk of being partially or fully obscured by construction barriers throughout the summer months. Officials opted to postpone or reschedule the work to avoid disrupting both tourists and local foot traffic in one of Heraklion's busiest pedestrian areas. Visitors to Heraklion can continue to enjoy the fountain and its surrounding square without obstruction. Lions Square remains a central meeting point and a short walk from the Archaeological Museum, the old harbor, and the main market street.
