Two Minors in Intensive Care Following E-Scooter Accidents in Crete

Tuesday, 16 June 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
Two minors are currently in intensive care in Crete following separate accidents involving electric scooters. The incidents highlight growing safety concerns around the widespread use of rental e-scooters across the island, particularly in popular tourist areas during the summer season. Tourists renting electric scooters in Crete are advised to exercise extreme caution. Greek law requires helmet use and prohibits riders under 18 from operating e-scooters on public roads. Riders should stay off main roads, avoid uneven surfaces common in older town centers, and check that rental equipment is in good condition before setting off. Traffic in resort areas becomes significantly heavier during summer months, increasing accident risk. If you are traveling with children or teenagers, be aware that e-scooter rentals are not legally available to minors, regardless of what some vendors may allow in practice.
