Exposed Metal Rods on Crete Service Road Pose Safety Hazard

Sunday, 19 April 2026/Flashnews/1
A road safety complaint has been filed regarding exposed metal rods left uncovered alongside the pavement on a service road running parallel to the national highway in Chania, western Crete. The hazard was flagged during ongoing public works in the area, with local residents criticizing the careless execution of the construction. The uncovered iron reinforcements pose a risk to drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians using the parallel road. Tourists driving or cycling near the Chania national highway corridor should exercise extra caution on service and secondary roads adjacent to active construction zones, particularly after dark when such obstacles are harder to spot. No incidents have been reported so far.
