Greece Prioritizes BOAK Motorway to Drive Crete's Economic Growth

At the 11th Delphi Economic Forum, Greek infrastructure official Ch. Dimas highlighted the BOAK motorway as a key project boosting connectivity and regional development across Crete. The BOAK is an east-west highway currently under construction that will eventually link the island's major cities and regions from west to east. Dimas emphasized that infrastructure investment, alongside research and innovation, remains a national priority for improving productivity and quality of life in peripheral regions like Crete. For visitors, the ongoing BOAK construction means some road sections in central and eastern Crete may experience delays or detours. However, once complete, the motorway will significantly cut travel times between destinations such as Heraklion, Agios Nikolaos, and Sitia, making it easier to explore the less-visited eastern end of the island.
