A magnitude 3.7 earthquake struck early Saturday morning near the southeastern Aegean, with its epicenter recorded 33 kilometers west of Kasos island. Kasos lies roughly 65 kilometers southeast of the eastern tip of Crete. At this magnitude, the tremor was minor and is not expected to cause structural damage or pose any safety risk to visitors on Crete or surrounding islands. Earthquakes of this size are common in the eastern Mediterranean, which sits on active fault lines. No tsunami warning was issued. Tourists currently on Crete or planning to visit the island do not need to alter their plans. If you feel a minor tremor during your stay, standard advice applies: stay calm, move away from windows, and follow guidance from local authorities.
