Greek Coast Guard rescues 192 migrants off southern Crete

Tuesday, 9 June 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
Greek Coast Guard and rescue services completed a search and rescue operation south of Kali Limenes, on the southern coast of Crete, involving 192 migrants. This was the fourth such operation recorded in the area recently. The rescued individuals are expected to be transported to the port of Heraklion for processing by authorities. For tourists, this type of operation is routine in the southern Aegean and does not affect visitor safety or travel plans. The southern coast remains open to tourists, and beaches near Kali Limenes, including the historic site of Fair Havens mentioned in the Bible, are accessible as normal. Heraklion port may experience brief, localized activity from coast guard vessels during such operations, but ferry and cruise schedules are not expected to be disrupted.
