Greek Coast Guard Rescues 83 in Two Operations Off Crete

Monday, 1 June 2026/SourceCretan Magazine/1 min read
Greek Coast Guard and search and rescue authorities conducted two separate operations in the sea south of Crete, rescuing 83 foreign nationals. The operations were coordinated by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC). The southern sea corridor off Crete is an active migration route, and such operations are periodically carried out in these waters. These events take place well offshore and do not affect tourist areas, beaches, or travel on the island. Visitors to Crete can continue their plans without disruption. If you are travelling by ferry or boat in southern Cretan waters, be aware that rescue operations may occasionally cause brief delays to maritime traffic in the area. For updated maritime information, check with your ferry operator or the local port authority before departure.
