The tremor was recorded by seismic monitoring services including Volcano Discovery. At this low magnitude, earthquakes are rarely felt by people and cause no damage to buildings or infrastructure. Visitors to Crete do not need to take any precautions. The eastern and southeastern parts of the island, including areas around Sitia and Ierapetra, were closest to the epicenter. Seismic activity at this level is common in the region, as Crete sits in one of the most seismically active zones in Europe. There is no impact on travel, accommodations, beaches, or tourist activities across the island.
