Crete's Mediterranean Waters Reach Peak Summer Temperatures of 27°C

Saturday, 27 June 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
The Mediterranean Sea around Crete is currently warming to its summer temperatures, making conditions increasingly comfortable for swimming and water activities. In late June, sea temperatures along the Cretan coastline typically range between 24 and 27 degrees Celsius, with southern-facing beaches such as those near Matala, Plakias, and Ierapetra generally recording the warmest readings due to their exposure and shallower bays. Northern coastal areas around Heraklion and Chania tend to be slightly cooler but still very pleasant. Visitors can expect conditions to continue warming through July and August, which represent the peak swimming season. Snorkeling, diving, and boat trips are all well-suited to current conditions. Tourists should note that UV levels are high, so sun protection and hydration are advisable during midday hours when spending extended time in or near the water.
