Back to newsTravelers planning a trip to Crete this summer should expect significantly higher costs compared to previous years. Holiday prices across Europe have roughly doubled, driven by three converging factors: rising airline fuel costs, limited flight capacity, and surging demand from key markets including the UK, USA, Japan, and the UAE. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has flagged these pressures as a major contributor to budget increases for international travelers. Flights into Heraklion and Chania airports are likely to reflect these higher fares, particularly during peak season in July and August. Visitors are advised to book flights and accommodation well in advance to secure better rates, consider traveling in shoulder months such as May, June, or September, and budget for overall trip costs that may be 30 to 50 percent higher than in recent years.
