Back to newsThe Greek government has reached an agreement with supermarket chains and food industry representatives to hold prices stable on approximately 2,000 product lines throughout the summer months. The formal price cap mechanism, known as the "plafon," is being phased out, replaced by this voluntary commitment from retailers and producers. Shoppers can expect prices on everyday goods to remain steady at current levels until the end of summer. Starting in early September, reductions on essential products are planned once the peak tourist season winds down. For visitors to Crete, this means grocery shopping at supermarkets should not see unexpected price spikes during your stay. Staples such as dairy, packaged foods, and household goods fall within the agreement. It is worth noting that prices may shift after your departure if you are visiting before September.
