LGBTQ+ Cruise Redirected to Crete After Turkey and Egypt Deny Entry

Friday, 10 July 2026/SourceFlashnews/1 min read
The Virgin Voyages cruise ship Scarlet Lady, carrying approximately 2,000 passengers on a month-long LGBTQ+ themed cruise, has docked at Souda Bay port near Chania after being denied entry by Turkey and Egypt. The ship redirected to Crete following those refusals, making Souda an unplanned but welcome stop on the itinerary. Souda Bay is one of Crete's main western ports, located about 6 kilometers from Chania city center. Passengers disembarking can reach Chania's old town by taxi or bus for a half-day visit. The harbor area itself has limited tourist facilities, so visitors heading into Chania should plan accordingly. The arrival highlights Crete's openness as a destination and is consistent with the island's generally welcoming reputation toward all travelers visiting its western region.
