Saturday, 25 April 2026/Naftemporiki/1
A 4.3 magnitude earthquake struck the waters approximately 21 kilometers south-southwest of Goudouras, in the Lasithi region of eastern Crete, in the early morning hours. The event was recorded by the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens. Earthquakes of this magnitude are common in Crete, which sits in one of the most seismically active zones in Europe. A 4.3 magnitude quake is generally felt by residents but rarely causes structural damage to modern buildings. No damage or injuries have been reported at this time. Tourists staying in the Lasithi area, including popular destinations such as Sitia or Ierapetra, may have felt light shaking. No tsunami warning was issued. Standard advice applies: if you feel a tremor, stay calm, move away from windows, and follow guidance from your accommodation staff.
