A minor earthquake of magnitude 3.1 struck approximately 21 kilometers south of Goudouras, a small coastal village on the southeastern tip of Crete, on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at 11:57 am local time (GMT+3). At this magnitude, the tremor was very unlikely to have been felt strongly at the surface and poses no risk to visitors or infrastructure. Goudouras is a remote area far from major tourist destinations. No damage or disruption to travel, accommodations, or tourist sites is expected. Earthquakes of this size are common in the eastern Mediterranean and are a normal feature of the region's geology. Tourists visiting Crete can continue their plans without concern.
