Back to newsThe town of Kissamos, located in western Crete, is facing a growing traffic congestion problem along its main central road. Each summer, as visitor numbers increase, traffic worsens significantly, and local authorities have been placing traffic cones along the route as a temporary measure. However, residents and officials agree that cones are not a lasting solution, and calls are growing for a proper bypass road to be built around the town. Until such infrastructure is developed, travelers driving through Kissamos, particularly those heading to or from the Gramvousa Peninsula and Balos Lagoon, should expect delays along the central route during peak summer months. Planning visits to western Crete earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon may help avoid the worst congestion in and around Kissamos.
