Israeli Forces Release Australians After Intercepting Gaza Aid Flotilla

Sunday, 3 May 2026/Google News/1
Australian nationals were released after a Gaza-bound aid flotilla was intercepted by Israeli forces in waters off Crete. The incident occurred in the eastern Mediterranean, in the sea area near the island. The Australians were among international activists aboard vessels attempting to break the Gaza blockade. After being detained and redirected, they were subsequently freed. The interception took place in international waters and did not occur in or near any Cretan port or coastal area. There are no reported disruptions to maritime traffic, ferry services, or tourism infrastructure in Crete as a result of the incident. Visitors to the island should not expect any impact on their travel plans. Normal ferry routes between Crete and other Greek islands, as well as international departures from Heraklion and Chania ports, continue to operate without interruption.
