Back to newsCrete is expecting warm weather on Thursday, with temperatures likely reaching summer highs across the island. From Friday onward, conditions will shift as northern winds (known locally as boriades) move in, bringing cooler temperatures and potentially choppy seas along northern coastal areas.
Tourists planning beach days or boat excursions should consider scheduling water activities for Thursday while conditions remain calm. From Friday, the northern winds may affect ferry services and small boat trips, particularly on the northern coast between Heraklion, Rethymno, and Chania. Visitors on the south coast around Matala or Ierapetra will generally experience milder wind exposure.
Light layers are recommended for evenings from Friday onward. Travelers planning to visit mountain areas such as the Samaria Gorge should be prepared for cooler and breezier conditions through the weekend.
