Back to newsStarting Monday, June 29, 2026, KTEL Heraklion-Lasithi, the regional public bus company, has launched a seasonal route connecting Heraklion to Myrtiá village, home of the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum. The museum is dedicated to one of Greece's most celebrated authors, best known internationally for "Zorba the Greek" and "The Last Temptation of Christ." Kazantzakis was born in Crete and is buried in Heraklion. The annual summer route makes the museum directly accessible by public transport from Heraklion city center, without needing a rental car. Myrtiá is located approximately 15 kilometers south of Heraklion. Visitors interested in Cretan literary and cultural heritage should check the KTEL Heraklion website or station for current schedules and ticket prices, as timetables may vary throughout the season.
