Intense storm sweeps Greece and Crete; conditions improving

Sunday, 14 June 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
Greece's National Meteorological Service reports that a brief but intense weather system has moved through most of the country, bringing rainfall to the majority of regions including Crete. The disturbance was short-lived, described as a fast-moving storm rather than a prolonged weather event. For visitors currently in Crete, conditions are expected to improve following the passage of this system. Travelers should anticipate some residual cloud cover and the possibility of isolated showers, particularly in mountainous inland areas. Coastal and beach destinations may see clearer skies returning sooner than higher elevations. Tourists planning outdoor activities such as gorge hikes, including the Samaria Gorge, should check local trail conditions before setting out, as rainfall can affect path safety. Carrying a light rain layer remains advisable for day trips to the interior during this transitional period.
