Stavros Benos, president of the cultural heritage association DIAZOMA, recently visited the ancient archaeological site of Gortyna in central Crete to discuss upcoming cultural events and activities planned for the site over the coming months.
Gortyna, located roughly 45 kilometers south of Heraklion near the village of Agioi Deka, is one of the most significant archaeological sites in Crete. It served as the capital of the Roman province of Crete and Cyrenaica and is home to the famous Gortyn Law Code, one of the oldest and most complete legal inscriptions in the ancient Greek world.
DIAZOMA is a Greek nonprofit dedicated to restoring and promoting ancient theaters and heritage sites across Greece. Tourists visiting Gortyna can expect new cultural programming and events at the site in the near future. Admission is currently 6 euros.
