During the Vespers service, the local Bishop also elevated Fr. Zacharias Karatarakis to the rank of Protopresbyter and Spiritual Father, adding to the significance of the occasion. Blessed Paisios, a widely venerated Greek Orthodox monk who passed away in 1994, holds deep spiritual importance across Greece and Cyprus, making this church opening a meaningful event for the Orthodox community of western Crete. Visitors with an interest in Greek Orthodox culture and religious heritage can visit the new church in Chania. The city of Chania is located on the northwest coast of Crete and is easily accessible by car or bus from Heraklion, approximately 140 kilometres to the east.
