Direct flights between Alexandroupoli (northeastern Greece) and Heraklion, Crete's main city, have resumed, restoring a regional air link that improves connectivity across the country. Travelers from Thrace and the Aegean region can now fly directly to Crete without routing through Athens, reducing travel time significantly. Looking ahead, a direct air connection between Mytilini (Lesbos) and Heraklion is planned to launch in 2027, further expanding Crete's domestic flight network.
