Ten beaches in Crete consistently rank among the most searched destinations on Google by international travelers. Elafonisi, located on the southwest tip of the island, draws visitors with its pink-tinged sand and shallow turquoise lagoon. Balos lagoon, accessible by boat from Kissamos or via a rocky hiking trail, offers a dramatic landscape of white sand and crystal-clear water. Vai, on the eastern coast near Sitia, is notable for Europe's largest natural palm forest bordering the beach. Other frequently searched beaches include Falasarna, Matala, and Preveli, each offering distinct scenery and atmosphere. Visitors planning trips to these spots should book boat excursions to Balos early in the season, as capacity fills quickly. Elafonisi and Balos are busiest in July and August, so arriving before 10am is advisable to secure parking and space on the sand.
