German Tourist Charged After Motorcycle Crash Leaves Rider Critical

Monday, 13 July 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
A German tourist is facing felony charges following a serious road accident in Moires, a town in the Heraklion regional unit of Crete, on Saturday, July 11. The crash left a motorcyclist critically injured and hospitalized in the intensive care unit. Authorities have opened a criminal investigation and pressed serious charges against the foreign driver. Moires is located along the main road connecting Heraklion to the Messara Plain and is frequently used by tourists traveling to popular sites such as Phaistos and Matala. Visitors renting cars, ATVs, or motorbikes in Crete are reminded to drive cautiously on local roads, which can be narrow and unfamiliar. Greek traffic law applies fully to foreign nationals, and serious violations can result in criminal prosecution. Always hold a valid license, wear a helmet, and observe speed limits.
