Back to newsElafonissi Beach, located on the southwestern tip of Crete, is one of the island's most celebrated natural landmarks. Known for its distinctive pink-tinged sand, formed by crushed shells and coral, and its shallow turquoise lagoon, the beach draws visitors from across the world. The area is a protected nature reserve, home to rare plant species and nesting sea turtles. Visitors can wade across the shallow channel to the small islet of Elafonissi, which offers quieter spots away from the main beach. The site is accessible by car via the mountainous road from Chania (approximately 75 km) or by seasonal ferry from Paleochora. Arrive early during summer months, as the beach becomes very busy by midday. Facilities include sunbeds, umbrellas, and a small snack bar.
