Back to newsHeraklion is marking the 60th anniversary of the return of the Sacred Skull of Saint Titus, one of the most significant religious events in Cretan history. Saint Titus was a disciple of the Apostle Paul and the first Bishop of Crete, making him central to the island's Christian heritage. His relic was held in Venice for centuries before being returned to Heraklion in 1966. Celebrations are taking place at the Church of Saint Titus, located in the heart of Heraklion's old town near the main pedestrian street 25th Avgoustou. The church is open to visitors year-round and is a short walk from the Archaeological Museum and the port. If you are in Heraklion during the commemorations, expect processions and religious ceremonies around the church, with increased foot traffic in the surrounding area.
